STCW Deadline Extended

The International Maritime Organisation has agreed to an effective delay for the implementation of new training and certification requirements for ship Ship Security Officer’s and seafarers with designated security duties.
The requirement was set out by the 2010 Manila Amendments to the STCW, but with a lack of information passed to Mariners and Seafarers and with the deadline of 1st January 2014 fast approaching it became apparent to all parties concerned that this was unachievable. The new guideline sets out a date of 1st July 2015 for all mariners and seafarers to access the relevant course and training.

It became quite clear to all industries involved that this change wasn’t communicated to all relevant parties concerned, with the deadline approaching Mariners were unable to access the approved relevant course enabling them to return to sea.
